- Why did you choose MDD?
MDD represent everything I value about the human spirit. They are kind, caring and gentle. The company reminds me of those fantastic nurses who really care for their patients, and collectively they make such differences (big and small) in people’s lives. All of the other companies make such valuable contributions, but in MDD the heart and spirit just shone out in my opinion. I’m very lucky to be able to call such wonderful people my brothers and to learn from them.
- Why did you join TarValon.net?
When I read the site mission statement, I really felt inspired, and after spending some time guesting, I found the people to be really genuine and delightful, so joining was a real privilege I am thankful for daily.
- Any advice for someone going through the guesting process?
Like all things in life, follow your heart not your head. I know it’s tempting to just fall for the charms of groups like MDD, but you need to really do what is right for you. All the groups are fantastic and each brings its own special character to the tower community gestalt. Make sure you relax, and really let the spirit of the group you guest with get inside you, to see if it fits. Once you find one that works you will feel so good you may die a little.
- What is the meaning of life?
The meaning of life? That would require some deep thought. I’ll have to get back to you!
- What is your name?
Matthew, but of course you can call me Matt.
- What is your quest?
I don’t know about quest, but I’ve always felt that living a good wholesome life free from excess, setting a good example for others, and loving and caring for all people stuck on this little rock in space were good principles to live by.
- What is your favorite color?
I find colour and mood go hand in hand, so I’m normally a bright yellow or a bubbly sea-foam green. Although my birth colours are light blue, white and cream. Light blue is a gentle colour and white very pure, I do like all three. However, no clear favourite, that would be unfair on the other colours, and might make them feel blue.
- What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
A science question! Not my forte, but I seem to remember seeing the answer in a wildlife documentary Michael Palin presented. Maybe you should ask one of the ladies here in MDD, they seem to have a knack for sciency & math questions many of us men just don't get.
- Why is the sky blue?
Again my biggest weakness! I’m a simple sort of guy, and will leave questions like this to my far brighter brothers and sisters in MDD to answer.
- Why should I worry?
You shouldn’t worry! Everything is awesome!
- Why should I care?
Because if we all care, the world would be a better place, so let’s lead by example and start the care-pedemic.
- Why is it called a 2x4?
I believe it refers to the number of inches, when working with wood size is very important, so a lot of the names involve measurements. Personally I like 6x2 for the work I do. Much more sturdy.
- What is Harry Potter's last name?
I don’t really like witchcraft, it makes me uncomfortable, so while I have nothing but respect for the acting and writing talent that went into creating the fantastic Potter series, I’m afraid I personally haven’t watched the movies or read the books, so I’m not sure of the character names. Sorry!
- What's your favorite video game?
Who has time for games?! Life is too precious to spend sitting there playing by yourself.
- Are you pregnant?
No, unfortunately I’ll never get to experience the wonder of child bearing due to being a male, which is a shame as it really is a beautiful and miraculous process. I always think women who are pregnant just look so beautiful, and it's a pleasure to be around them.
- What's the latest gossip?
While it is never for me to judge, I don’t really approve of gossip. I guess to me each to their own, and I would rather support the person than gain perverse pleasure in their issues.
- What was the last lie you told?
I try not to lie, but it does happen sometimes, I'm not perfect after all!
- What is your greatest weakness?
I’m not great with science, but we’ve already covered that. Sometimes I think I let myself be taken advantage of, but giving just feels so good.
- Ugly and live forever, or attractive and die in a year?
I’ve never thought looks matter at all, and think of all the good you could do with unlimited time to spend helping others! Still, I wonder if living forever is a bit selfish. How about be beautiful on the inside and live as long as I can still help more than I burden.
- If you could lock anyone in a room so you could torment them for a day, who would you choose and why?
I can’t imagine doing that to another person, so I guess it would have to be myself.
- What question do you hate to answer?
Anything that requires me to judge people, or only look at the surface.
- What's the best way to deal with zombies?
Write a strongly worded letter to the creator of the media explaining to them that while you respect their creative and intellectual abilities, you really wish they didn’t have to include so much violence and gore. What if a child happened to watch it? In these days of the World Wide Web it’s hard to protect those most vulnerable.
- Have you ever eaten glue?
Only if you count my attempt at making quinoa and spirulina salad! Still, health is important, and you’ve got to put into your body all the goodness you want to get out of it.
- What is the longest you've gone without sleep?
I try to get a good night sleep to help me function at my best, but sometimes I get so inspired by shows like parks and recreation I can’t sleep for all the thinking about how I can more closely model my life after Ms Knope.
- Is there anything I should know?
- Who is your hero?
Tom Cruise really speaks to me with the confidence he has to share his faith with others. I think Tom Cruise would make a fantastic MDD, and he certainly is a hero. Otherwise, I’ve always admired Susan B Anthony and Leo Sternbach.
- How much wood can a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
6.573 pounds per day (Thomas, 1988).
- What is your greatest fear?
That I might miss an opportunity to grow as a person, or that I will accidentally offend someone.
- What's your favorite knock-knock joke?
“Knock knock”, “who is there?”, “Cows go”, “Cows go who?”, “No silly! Cows go Moo”.
- What is your favorite thing to spend money on?
I always like buying little things for people, to really brighten up their day! Otherwise, I like to just spend money on little frivolous things, you know, those trinkets which have no purpose other than to make you happy. Being too attached to money just isn’t healthy, and I think spending the money on the little things helps prevent that attachment.
- What's your favorite Pokemon?
Eevee, because just like people Eevee can be anything (and it looks super cute!).
- What would you do for a Klondike bar?
I don’t know what a Klondike bar is, but google suggests they are vanilla icecream filling with a chocolate coating, and a chocolate hunk filled with cream sounds yummy.
- What is the weirdest thing about you?
The weirdest thing about me is that I can be around such awesome people like the tower folk and not be inspired to just spend all my time listening to their stories and learning from them.
- What do you think Victoria's secret is?
How much she loves that her lingerie range makes so many loving married couples intimate lives more fulfilling.
- Who put the "glad" in "gladiator"?
Well, birds make me glad, and crows are a bird, and crows are black, and Joaquin Phoenix has black hair, so I’m going to go for Joaquin Phoenix.
