“Wheel of Time” Fundraiser!
A CHANCE TO BE PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER….
The Robert Jordan estate, Brandon Sanderson and the greater Wheel of Time community are proud to announce a joint effort to raise money for Heifer International (a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating hunger and poverty through the donation of farm animals to those most in need).
We invite you to join in this international WoT Fandom community effort! In choosing to participate, you will be entered into a chance for an unprecedented opportunity… a chance to become a character in the final book: “A Memory of Light.”
TWO WAYS TO PARTICIPATE!
All fans who donate will get a chance to be in the final book in the series, “A Memory of Light,” regardless of the amount given. Every effort helps to make a difference! There are two ways to participate in the fundraiser and either could bring greater rewards.
Mr. Sanderson will create a unique combat unit to fight in the last battle. This unit will represent all fans who donated to this cause to fight poverty in our own world. When you read about them in the final book, you will know they represent you! Please see the poll to the side and be sure to vote for the type of fighters you would like us to be! Several donors, however, will get a more personal reference!
The highest bidder in the Silent Auction will be memorialized as a character (physical description, name within guidelines) in a Memory of Light!
Those who participate in the General Fundraiser will have their names entered into a drawing. At least two donors will be selected and memorialized as Officers of the combat unit representing all who participated (minimum $20 USD donation to be eligible for the drawing).

Joining the General Fundraiser is a wonderful choice for people who definitely want to be associated with a group in “A Memory of Light”, as well as for those who want to give what they can. All who participate in the General Fundraiser should consider themselves part of this named unit (be sure to vote!). See the link to the side (”Join the General Fundraiser!”) and it will take you to our PayPal page. Please follow these instructions! The link will take you to our “Team Page” at Heifer International. Click “Join our Team”, and fill out the relevant information. Consider adding your phone number as well to facilitate contact if you are chosen as a named character. .
JOIN THE SILENT AUCTION
The Silent Auction rewards those who are willing to pledge a larger amount of money, but who do not wish to be obligated if they do not win one of the named slots. If your name is not chosen, you are not obligated to fulfill your pledge. To participate, please click the link on the link to the side (”Bid in the Silent Auction”), and place your bid there.
Every day by 1 pm EST, we will post the highest amount received on this page. You may only bid once a week.
Please note, the highest bidder will be required to make a donation in the amount offered to Heifer International through the fundraising site of Mr. Sanderson’s choice. Should more people be needed, the next highest bidder will be chosen and so forth. They will need to donate in their pledged amounts in order to be named as well.

Q & A
If I donate to the General Fundraiser, what happens to the money?
TarValon.Net is only facilitating the fundraiser and auction. All funds received will go directly to charity, with only the PayPal fees deducted to cover the costs of using their service. PLEASE NOTE! As of 2/23/09 we are no longer using PayPal to process the financial transactions for the General Fundraiser. General Donors will be sent to the WoT Charity Team page at Heifer International instead.
I’m donating to the General Fundraiser, and I see an option to pick an animal in conjunction with my donation. Does this do anything?
No, it does not. It is just a part of the Team website. All donation funds will be given the Heifer for them to use where there is most need.
On the Team Heifer page, I don’t see many people’s names listed. I do see a large sum donated by “Melissa Craib.” What does this mean?
When we decided to stop using Paypal as a vendor, we needed to transfer the funds from that account to the Heifer page. That large donation represents donations that previously came through paypal, Melissa’s name is there because she is the one transferring the funds. Funds are being transferred in bunches as there is limit on how much we can transfer at one time. If you donated through Paypal, don’t worry! We have your name and information on our list, and you’re in the drawing.
May I participate in both fundraisers?
Yes, you may participate in both the Silent Auction and the General Fundraiser. Please note you cannot win more than one character named for you.
What are the rules for naming characters?
You may use your name or an appropriate name of your choice, but the author reserves the right to approve it or change it to fit the type of character created. A physical description of yourself may be used.
How long is the Fundraiser and when will winners be announced?
The General Fundraiser and Silent Auction will continue through April 10th, and winners will be announced at Jordan*Con during the Ball on Saturday, the weekend of April 17th, 2009 (as well as on this website).
Can I be entered multiple times in the General Auction by giving several small donations?
No. There will be one entry per name. Please give what you are able or willing to give if you join the General Auction. Multiple entries will not give you multiple chances to win. This is meant to be an even playing field for all willing to donate, regardless of their financial means.
I am trying to donate to the General Auction, but have difficulties. Who do I contact?
You must contact Heifer International for issues regarding payments through the general auction. They have an exceptionally friendly staff who actually do pick up the phone if there is an issue!
May I pay by check or cash?
At this time we are only able to accept credit card, or debit as methods of donation.
Who is eligible to win?
All fans are eligible to win with the exception of those administrating this fundraiser, their immediate families, and the leading members of the WoT Webmasters Group. To be eligible for the General Fundraiser, you must donate at least $20 US Dollars.
How can I show that I’ve participated?
We’ve created a signature banner for your use! Show others that you’ve joined in our fight to end world poverty by placing this in your signature line at any community you participate in.

I have questions about my privacy
All donors give consent to have their names published publicly, unless they write to wotcharity@tarvalon.net and request that it be withheld. This is done so you may check to make sure your name is on the list before we draw the winners from the General Fund during Jordan*Con. All winners, including the Silent Auction winner, further agree to allow us to use their names to announce them as the donors selected to be use in “A Memory of Light,” including use of their names in any publicity associated with “The Wheel of Time” in this regard.
Private information such as contact emails and phone numbers will be given to Brandon Sanderson in case he chooses to use additional names at a later time.
